As the traditional custodian and provider of official statistics for the monitoring and implementation of the development agenda, national statistics entities play a central role in informing policy-making and monitoring the progress towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The more mature these organizations become, the higher the quality of data that they produce, and therefore, the more effective monitoring of the progress on the SDG targets.

Through the development of a capability maturity model (CMM), this activity seeks to improve the way National Statistics Offices (NSOs) produce SDG indicators data.
